Not impressed. Went here with my family because my Mum likes it, but it appears she is easily pleased. They hadnt got out table ready so I had to wait while another chair was brought. When it did arrive there was no eye contact nor apology. The lady in charge was as welcoming as a prison guard. We werent offered a wine list so ordered house red, being a bit bemused by this but not wanting to make a fuss so as not to make my Mum uncomfortable.I ordered the carpaccio, which was like 4 pieces of 2 inch across minute steak when it arrived, far too much rocket and a cheese which looked more like cheddar than Parmesan. I dont think the chef has any idea what a carpaccio is.My main course was haddock with mushy peas and chips. The haddock was overdone, the chips rubbery and the mushy peas bland and so thick and over cooked I could slice them.I decided to forego dessert, as unless you like Mvenpick ice cream, you were largely out of luck.My girlfriend ordered an espresso with ice cream (which caused the young waiter some buffering issues) specifically asking for it to come in a bowl. It came in a saucer. Too much effort? My fellow diners werent as disappointed as I was (hence the 2nd star). My girlfriend described her steak as pub standard at restaurant price. My brother had the steak and ale pie which he liked, but the pastry looked disgusting. His wife had bangers and mash. The staff were largely young, except for the unsmiling Matriarch (who incidentally walked through me twice during the evening, without the tiniest attempt at courtesy), and who - and Ive never seen this before- all openly sipped (presumably soft) drinks all night. Ive never known waiting staff to pay such attention to their own needs rather than their customers. We had the one round of drinks all night and were not asked if we wanted more. True, we couldve asked, but I felt I had given them too much already.
Good if fairly expensive gastro grub. Plenty of space in the new (to me) restaurant extension. Hadn't visited the Plough for nearly 40 years but it has retained most of its charm.
Met a friend for an early supper this week. Was very impressed by the very warm welcome from young staff. Efficient and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Excellent pub food in a lovely atmosphere.
We went to the plough for a group meal there were 20 of us and we all had a normal choice from the menu. The food came quickly and was absolutely delicious, I had stuffed mushrooms followed by vegetable lasagne and then crumble and enjoyed every mouthful. We will be going back and back again if the food stays at that standard. Thee pub was clean the toilets were nice and the outdoor area was really well kept. Dogs were also welcome and the atmosphere was lovely.
Very popular venue. Staff working flat out but still managed to answer our questions with patience and plenty of smiles. The food was excellent and arrived quickly. Menu folder had no sign which we have never seen before. (Perhaps we should get out more!) Being such a popular place, it was quite noisy as the evening progressed but nevertheless we have already booked another table. Altogether a very pleasant experience.
